Sweet Life: Diabetes Can’t Keep This Diva Down

Patti LaBelle, Grammy-winning singer and entertainer, knows how important it is to live a healthy lifestyle. With Patti’s mom losing her legs because of diabetes, and her grandmother and aunt both passing away from complications, it truly hit home — especially when Patti was also diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 1994.

Through Patti’s commitment to living healthy, she has been able to properly manage her diabetes, and make sure her family and friends are living as healthy as they can. Cooking is a passion for Patti. She has been able to channel that passion and teach others that you can cook healthy, but delicious. One way she has done this is by conducting a cooking demonstration at the American Diabetes Association EXPO® in Chicago in 2014. Patti will continue to teach healthy cooking at additional EXPO sites throughout the country, and will include her four Association-approved “Patti’s Good Life” sauces in her recipes.

Patti will continue to work with the American Diabetes Association to Stop Diabetes® through other various programs, events and activities; help raise critical awareness about healthy living; and help the public understand the importance of managing diabetes to prevent its deadly complications.
