Multiple sclerosis — an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body — affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. The good news is that advances in research and treatment are leading to a better understanding of the disease. This year’s Walk MS is expected to raise more than $1 billion to further the cause.
Walk MS: New Orleans takes place March 18 at Audubon Park, with more than 900 people expected to participate this year — raising more than $99,000 to add to the pot. This is an excellent opportunity for those living with MS, and those who care about them, to connect, join together and be inspired in a community-wide event. walkms.org
